The summer session of the Parent-Child LapSit program will begin on Monday, June 8 and run through July 30. The summer session presentations will be a part of the Early Childhood Summer Program and will loosely relate to the theme of “Every Hero has a Story!
Parent/Child Lap Sits will be offered every Monday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Children’s Program Room.
The Parent/Child Lap Sits last about 30-45 minutes. Parent or Caregivers need to bring the child and sit together to enjoy developmentally appropriate stories, songs (accompanied by banjo and ukulele), finger plays, flannel board presentations and a weekly visit from Puff the Magic Dragon.
Generally, block your time for an hour for parking purposes. We meet in the Children’s Program Room. We will NOT meet when the Petoskey schools are closed! (This policy applies only to morning programs, watch for enews, look here or call to see if afternoon and evening programs have been cancelled).
These programs are targeted at children 18 months to three years old, but younger children will enjoy the activities to varying degrees as well. Information about parenting, literacy and other family related subjects will be shared periodically during the program. Due to the developmental needs of these age groups, siblings are discouraged from attending if at all possible. However, nobody will be turned away if bringing a sibling is the only way for a child to attend. Toys should not be brought to the program either. This is a “drop-in” program and no sign-up is required.
