Parent-Child LapSit Storytime-Summer!
Parent/Child LapSits and last about 30-45 minutes. Parent or Caregivers need to bring the child and sit together to enjoy developmentally appropriate stories, songs (accompanied by banjo and ukulele); finger plays, flannel board presentations and a weekly visit from Puff the Magic Dragon. These programs are targeted at children 18 months to three years old. Information about parenting, literacy and other family related subjects will be shared periodically during the program.
Due to the developmental needs of this age group, it is preferred that siblings do not attend if at all possible. However, nobody will be turned away if bringing a sibling is the only way for a child to attend. Bringing toys is also discouraged. This is a “drop-in” program and no sign-up is required.
This is School Library Journal's Third "Summerteen" event. If you like books and authors, you will LOVE this, and, even if you don't, you may find that you really do after you participate! Paws to Read - Euchre
Readers earn a stamp on a record card for every 15 minutes that they read to one of our dogs. When he/she has earned 4 stamps, they will receive a "Pawsome Reader" tag to wear as a necklace or use as a zipper tag. If readers complete a second card, they get a “Pawsome Reader” dog tag.
The theory is, that by reading out loud to the dog, who doesn't judge how well the child reads, the child’s self consciousness disappears and she gains the confidence needed to become a better reader.
Readers will need to schedule a 15 minute appointment at the Youth Services Desk or by calling 231-758-3112. Open or cancelled slots will be available on a first-come, first served basis.
There is no charge for this activity
Buy One, Get One Free Book Fair! Family Night Preview
You may get "first dibs" on the selection! There will be door prizes and snacks. Because we have programs all day in the Program Room, we may just open the cases & boxes where they sit. If you don't get something that you want from the fair, don't despair, we can order it.
Remember that 90% or more of the titles will be Scholastic titles (or their other imprints) and that they usually do not include very many of their latest releases in a Buy One Get One Free book fair. That being said, the fair is a GREAT way to get those titles that you WANT to own!
Check out our Book Fair Web Page for our hours and other information.
