Paws to Read - Euchre
Readers earn a stamp on a record card for every 15 minutes that they read to one of our dogs. When he/she has earned 4 stamps, they will receive a "Pawsome Reader" tag to wear as a necklace or use as a zipper tag. If readers complete a second card, they get a “Pawsome Reader” dog tag.
The theory is, that by reading out loud to the dog, who doesn't judge how well the child reads, the child’s self consciousness disappears and she gains the confidence needed to become a better reader.
Readers will need to schedule a 15 minute appointment at the Youth Services Desk or by calling 231-758-3112. Open or cancelled slots will be available on a first-come, first served basis.
There is no charge for this activity.
Chess Gang - Family Night
The Chess Gang hosts a monthly Family Night so that club members may play in a tournament environment and/or play their parents. Most of the Family Nights will be the third Thursday of the month in the Carnegie Building (the "Old" library across the street) from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
The next PDL family chess night is scheduled for Nov. 20 at the Carnegie Building from 6:30 to 8:30 upstairs. New ‘unrated’ players are welcome ages 8 through adult. It’s “kid’s bring an adult night” and parents are encouraged to play as well as being asked to stay and supervise younger children.
