    TwoThumbsUpx2-24-12The “Chess Gang” will meet from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the Children’s Program Room and will be mentored by Mr. Robert Bemben & Robin Ray of Levering. Young people from 8-16 yrs may drop in at any time during the scheduled time and the activity is free. The emphasis will be on open chess play with some instruction, depending upon the needs of the participants (Older players will assist the younger ones). Players of all skill levels are welcome and are encouraged to bring chess sets from home if they have them. Adults interested in assisting should call Ron Fowler at the library, 231-758-3123.

    Micky and Jean WIlson will be available on the 1st Tuesday of the month.

    All PAWS activities are held in the Children’s Room.

    Readers earn a stamp on a record card for every 15 minutes that they read to one of our dogs. When he/she has earned 4 stamps, they will receive a “Pawsome Reader” tag to wear as a necklace or use as a zipper tag. If readers complete a second card, they a “Pawsome Reader” dog tag.

    The theory is, that by reading out loud to the dog, who doesn’t judge how well the child reads, the child’s self consciousness disappears and she gains the confidence needed to become a better reader.

    Euchre1-smallEuchre and his human, Barbara Green will be available on the second and fourth Thursdays fro 5-7:00 p.m.

    Readers earn a stamp on a record card for every 15 minutes that they read to one of our dogs.  When he/she has earned 4 stamps, they will receive a "Pawsome Reader" tag to wear as a necklace or use as a zipper tag.  If readers complete a second card, they get a “Pawsome Reader” dog tag.

    Readers will need to schedule a 15 minute appointment at the Youth Services Desk or by calling 231-758-3112. Open or cancelled slots will be available on a first-come, first served basis.

    The Petoskey High School Anime’ Club meets at the library every Friday afternoon from 3:45 to 5:00 p.m. in the Program Room to view and discuss anime’ programs and movies.  This is a “drop-in” program and there is no charge for this activity.
