Community Read

This summer’s #supporttheirstories community read is The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich. Stop by the library’s front desk for the action card or print one here. The Resource List that accompanies the action card can be found here. Complimentary copies of the book are also available at the front desk, while supplies last. Throughout the months of July and August, Meredith Kennedy will be facilitating the following discussions. Please join us on the library’s outdoor labyrinth, registration is not required.
Wednesday, August 11, 2:00pm: Learn about the importance of MMIW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women) and how it relates to the characters in the book. Little Traverse Bay Bands will have a staff person from their MMIW & Survivor Outreach program helping to lead the discussion with Meredith.
Wednesday, August 25, 5:30pm: Learn about and discuss U.S. policy, including the Dawes Act, Indian Education Act, and the Indian Child Welfare Act and how it affected the local community and how these policies still affect Indigenous people today.
