Notary services

The Petoskey District Library offers limited, non-legal notary services by appointment/availability up to 30 minutes before closing. 

Key Guidelines:

  • Cost: Free for Petoskey District Library cardholders; $5 per document for non-cardholders.

  • Limit: Up to 3 documents per person, per day.

  • ID Required: Must present a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID with a signature.

  • Document Prep: Documents must be fully completed in English (no blank pages) ahead of time except for the signatures. Documents must be signed in the presence of the notary.

  • Witnesses: You must bring your own witnesses if required; library staff or patrons cannot act as witnesses. Witnesses need to be 18 years of age or older, with a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID with signature.

  • Stamp Only: Staff use ink stamps only (no embossers) and reserve the right to decline service.

Exclusions:

  • Real Estate Transactions: Mortgages, Deeds, Closing Documents, etc.

  • Employment Eligibility Verification Forms

  • Michigan Vital Records: Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce

  • Provide a medallion signature guarantee stamp

  • Provide an Apostille

Do you need a proctor for your test? Exam proctoring is available by reservation only.
