Library Roofing Project Begins — Access & Safety Are Our Top Priorities
The Petoskey District Library is excited to announce that our much-needed roofing project is officially underway! While the work will bring some temporary changes to building access, the library will remain open throughout the project, and patron safety and accessibility are our top priorities.
5/20 update: Our back alley book drop is closed during Library hours today while construction on the back of the building is underway. We hope to have the alley reopened by tomorrow, 5/21, but check back for udpates.
What to Expect:
- Roofing supplies were delivered on Monday, May 19. During the delivery, Mitchell Street between Waukazoo Avenue and Division Street was closed for approximately four hours, but has been reopened.
- Roofing work began on Monday, May 19, and is expected to last just ten days.
- Noisy spaces- if you are planning to study or are looking for a quiet place, please note that there will be construction noise, though some areas of the library may not be as noisy.
Important Access and Safety Information:
- The main library entrance will remain open throughout the project.
- A safe, secure scaffolding tunnel is in place at the entrance, with clear signage to guide patrons through the area.
- Visitors using wheelchairs or strollers are welcome to enter through the main doors and can receive assistance from Chris, our friendly safety escort. If he’s not at the ramp when you arrive, his phone number will be posted there so you can easily reach him. The Bell Door and locker entrance (nearest to the AT&T building) will be closed Monday–Friday, May 19–23, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Patrons needing locker pickup can do so after 8:00 PM and before 8:00 AM.
- Parking spaces along just the east side of Waukazoo Avenue will be unavailable, but our main parking lot remains open.
- The labyrinth/courtyard area will be closed throughout the project for staging and safety. Our outdoor nature play program scheduled for May 19 is cancelled.
- The alley and drive-thru book drop will be closed for a few days while work is done on that side of the building. The date of this closure will be announced (closed 5/20). Library items can still be returned at our main door or indoor book drop, any township book drop, or by calling for curbside assistance.
