For the fall season, the series will take place every Wednesday with a start time of 7:00pm. There is no cost to attend, though donations will be accepted. Doors to the Carnegie Building will open at 6:30pm with first-come seating. Those attending may bring their own snacks. People are encouraged to review available information about each movie to determine whether the content and mature subject matter are acceptable to them personally before deciding to attend. SEPTEMBER 13 --- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind |
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004 • Romance/Sci-fi • Rated R • 1h 48m) Adapted from a screenplay by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Michel Gondry, this 2004 film explores the complexity of relationships when the two lead characters, played by Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet, have their memories of each other erased. SEPTEMBER 20 --- Dr. Strangelove |
Dr. Strangelove (1964 • War/Comedy • Rated PG • 1h 35m) Stanley Kubrick's 1964 political satire film stars Peter Sellers in three roles, as well as George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden, and many others. In the movie, a U.S. Air Force general goes insane, ordering a nuclear strike on the U.S.S.R., and the American president and his advisors attempt to stop the bombing. Seconds (1966 • Sci-fi/Thriller • Rated R • 1h 47m) In this movie directed by John Frankenheimer, banker Arthur Hamilton (John Randolph) discovers he can leave his current life behind by undergoing a procedure at a company that will give him a new face and a new life. But he soon realizes adjusting to his new persona as handsome Malibu artist Tony Wilson (Rock Hudson) is the least of his worries. OCTOBER 4 --- 12 Monkeys |
12 Monkeys (1995 • Sci-fi/Thriller • Rated R • 2h 9m) In this futuristic movie directed by Terry Gilliam, it's 2035 and the world has been devastated by disease. A convict (Bruce Willis) is sent back in time to the 1990s to gather information about the man-made virus that wiped out nearly all of humanity, but things don't go as planned. The Lobster (2015 • Romance/Drama • Rated R • 1h 58m) Set in a alternate world, this 2015 black comedy drama follows David (Colin Farrell) whose wife recently left him. David's taken to a hotel with other single people where they all must find a romantic partner within 45 days or they will be transformed into animals and sent off into the woods. Harvey (1950 • Comedy Drama • Not Rated • 1h 44m) This 1950 charming comedy stars James Stewart as Elwood P. Dowd, a kind-hearted, wealthy drunk who starts having visions of a giant rabbit named Harvey. Elwood lives with his sister Veta (Josephine Hull) and after he starts introducing his invisible friend to everyone in town, she believes he's gone insane and tries to have him committed. A Clockwork Orange (1971 • Drama/Crime • Rated R • 2h 16m) Stanley Kubrick's 1971 movie, based on the Anthony Burgess' book of the same title, is set in a dismal future England and chronicles a sadistic delinquent named Alex (Malcolm McDowell) as he leads his gang in "ultra-violence" before they set him up to get arrested. In prison, Alex volunteers for a conduct-aversion experiment but the results aren't quite what he expected. Despite the controversy caused by the film's explicit sex and violence, it went on to be nominated for dozens of awards including Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Editing.
