Kids

The Petoskey Chess Club meets during the school year on Mondays from 3:30pm to 5:30pm in the Library's Lower Level Classroom, and is mentored by Robert Bemben, Robin Ray, and Adam Masek. Young people ages 8–18 are welcome to drop in and play anytime on Mondays.

This is History Makers! We will focus on someone from the past that has helped shape the future. Listen to a read aloud of a picture book biography and do a craft or activity based on the accomplishments of the person.

This program is intended for children ages 5 to 8.

A Musical Journey for Young Minds!

Dive into the enchanting world of music with Little Waves, a children's program presented by the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra (GLCO). Designed for curious minds aged 4 to 10, this innovative initiative invites young explorers to discover the wonders of music and instruments in a relaxed and informal setting. Led by the talented GLCO percussionist, Tim Mocny, Little Waves offers an extraordinary opportunity for children to explore various musical instruments and genres. Each session features different GLCO musicians, who expertly guide the young audience through the mesmerizing realm of musical wonder. From the resonant horns to the vibrant strings, the rhythmic percussion to the melodious oboe, every session promises an enriching experience.

Paws to Read to read is on a pause.
Paws to Read is a way for kids to build confidence by reading aloud to a dog who loves to listen in a non-judgmental way.

Featuring a new craft, taste-test, or simple challenge each week. It’s a fun, screen-free time! Dropping in during the hour is okay.

We'll meet each Wednesday from 3:30pm - 4:30pm in the tween area of the children's room.

Tweens (ages 8-12)

The tween space has comfy, fun furniture and boogie boards to draw on. Three computers are available to browse the internet. Check the calendar for tween programs and events.
